This morning I was having a love/hate relationship in my brain about walking. I wanted to walk but I seem to have a crick in my back and thought it might make it worse if I walked. Of course, that's ridiculous, because I believe "Walking solves everything!"
So, as I watched the dawn's early light creep over our beautiful mountain, love won out again and I donned my merrils and grabbed my earphones and headed out on the road.
Clicked on my first podcast "The Writer's Almanac" with Garrison Keillor and learned that on this day in 1893 Beatrix Potter sent a note to a young friend in hospital saying "I will tell you a story about 4 little rabbits who's names are Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail and Peter." (Love this podcast first thing in the morning.)
This morning I was jolted out of the quiet by a huge big truck passing me on this small street and had to wait while it backed into a long tall driveway. I hope that guy wasn't lost.
Finally, rounded the blind corner and even before I saw it I smelled the amazing honeysuckle hedge that borders one of the homes. The aroma was overpowering this morning.
Here are some fun facts about honeysuckle I found on the web.
Fun Flower Facts about the Honeysuckle:
- the flowers and leaves are edible; the leaves can be cooked and eaten as a vegetable
- while the berry is food for bears, birds and other small animals, the fruit is toxic to humans
- the flowers of the wild honeysuckle start off white and turn yellow once it has been pollinated
- honeysuckle has been used in traditional herbal medicine for centuries; the plant has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and calming properties
- it has been used to treat fevers, inflammation, and skin infections (rashes and abrasions)
- the flower is often used in cosmetics and beauty products
- honeysuckle is also used inside cat toys because cats are attracted to the scent
- the berry can be used as a source of dye
By now the crick in my back felt sooooo much better. And I was into my second podcast "Marketing Smarts" and found the answer to exactly how I would create my next Tuesday training webinar.
Yes, I do believe walking solves everything! :)
I rounded my favorite corner where the big gum trees grow and there to my surprise were these crazy ducks waddling along Kapiolani Street.
Do you have a little voice in your head that says, "I will walk today" or "Maybe, I won't walk today?"
So glad I walked today!
